Abstract. Ancient Mesopotamian Legal Texts about maritime “law”. The paper would like to focus on the “juridical” norms coming from ancient Mesopotamia concerning navigation. The purpose of the paper would like to show that the Mesopotamian “Codes” have been a prodromal of what we consider today as maritime law. From the investigation of the Mesopotamian legal texts, a very interesting picture emerges on what was considered right for the Mesopotamian kings about the art of navigation. Of course this paper represents a preliminary study about this intriguing topic without any claim to be exhaustive.
